Where I am from, winter has finally set in and it is absolutely freezing. Ok, so it’s possible I live in a pretty warm place and I am just a bit sensitive to the cold, but either way, I am feeling it. If you are feeling the cold too, don’t jump for the heater just yet – here are 5 ways to stay warm that are good for the planet.
Yes, you heard right, layers. Rug up with some socks, jumpers, jackets, long pants, and if its really cold, some gloves and a beanie. While this might sound a little silly, there is nothing more satisfying than feeling as snug as a bug in a rug.
Closing up the house
Make sure all of the doors are closed, both to the outside of the house, and to any rooms you aren’t using. If you have large gaps under the doors, put a towel or a rug there to cover the gap. This will keep the heat in and the cold out.
Sometimes, depending on how cold it is, simply getting outside for a walk or dancing like no one is watching can get your blood pumping and bring up your core temperature. Whatever your favourite form of movement is, why not give it a try? If it works, you will be warm, if it doesn’t, at least you got your steps up?
Soup or Tea
If moving doesn’t get you warm, try a nice cup of tea or a bowl of soup. Usually, when everything else fails, this is sure to warm me up. If you are a fan of spice, something that is spicy can keep you warmer for longer. Don’t go too crazy though!
If you do have tried all of the other options and you still need to get the heater running, then make sure you control the temperature. Why not try dropping the temperature down a few notches lower than you normally would set it? And once the house warms up, why not try dropping it a little more? I bet you don’t need it as strong as you think you do.
These are 5 ways I keep warm without turning to power heavy options. Do you have ways you keep warm in the winter, whilst saving the environment? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.
