In 2019, I really spent a lot of time convincing myself not to buy the things that I want to purchase. While I’m not a big shopper if you have been reading this blog for a while. you will know that I can sometimes get sucked into a bargain, and 2019 was all about changing that.
While I have mostly overcome my bargain hunting ways, I have realized there are a number of items I may need to purchase in 2020, but I wanted to ensure that I really need the things that I plan to purchase.
So, for 2020, I have taken the advice of Shelbizlee on Youtube, and I have begun a long term shopping list. I have set some ground rules for my specific list, that work with my lifestyle.
- Each item must be on the list for a minimum of 3 months before I am allowed to purchase it.
- During the 90 days, I must try to live without the item, using the things I already own
- All items must be purchased second hand or from an eco-friendly, ethical, vegan-friendly company
So far, this type of planning has really worked with my kettle, which I have decided not to replace, at least until the winter comes this June, as, during the summer, we simply haven’t needed it. You can read more about this here.
But this was simply a one-off item – in 2020, I will keep a running list of items that I’m working through.
Do you have a list of things you want to buy? Do you have set rules to help keep yourself on track? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.
