A new month – a time to refocus

Each month, I try to set myself a challenge. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen me take on the Minimalism Game challenge, the no spend challenge and several other Zero Waste challenges. I have recently been reflecting on what I get out of setting myself these challenges – and the truth is, it is a way to hit reset on each of my values.

While the environment, my mental health, my home, my work, and my continued learning are all close to my heart; taking them all on, full force all the time can be a little overwhelming, so spending a month focusing on each of these things, really brings me back to my best. Life just seems a little bit more digestible when I can focus on one thing at a time.

Now don’t get me wrong – I don’t suddenly start using single-use plastic when the month is up or give up on my minimalism journey when the minimalism game is over – I just try not to add anything new to my routine when I am not focused on that area of my life. That is just what works for me.

This month, I am really trying to focus on my health. After a big holiday, I am feeling a little sluggish – so my focus is my health – both physical and mental health. But, it seems Minimalism and my Zero Waste Journey are part of this too. I am trying to reset my eating – cutting out some processed food that had crept its way back into my diet at various functions – and focusing on getting as many fruits and vegetables into my diet as possible.

While I’ll also be headed back to the gym, I’ll also spend this month trying to maximize my exercise in life. This includes making sure I take the stairs and getting up from my desk and walking around every hour at work. Plus, I’ll really be focusing on making sure I drink enough water.

And to focus on my mental health, I’ll be attempting to meditate, I’ll be trying to find “me” time to read at least one book each week (a chance to read some books on the environment, plastic waste and minimalism) , and I’ll be trying to live in the moment as much as possible.

I would love you to join me on my journey if you would like to work on your health this month. I’ll be posting on Instagram and blogging about how things are going and recipes that I have created. Of course, I’ll also share any health-related Zero Waste hacks that I find! I would love to hear how you reset and refocus on your goals in the comments below!

  1. Cool! I had a few odds and ends in the fridge I didn’t know what to do with (a bit of cauliflower, a bit of kale) so I made a spaghetti sauce and used it to stretch the ground beef. 😉

I posted that to Instagram too. Will go check out you feed as well..
